Electro-Harmonix Release The Nano POG

Electro-Harmonix nano pog

I first heard about the Electro-Harmonix POG or Polyphonic Octave Generator Pedal when Joe Satriani used a Micro POG on Super Colossal back in 2006. The Micro POG was actually a pretty big pedal but not compared to it’s big brother, the POG2 which I reviewed 5 years ago! The Nano POG is the latest addition to the POG family and is finally the size of a regular sized pedal.

Tracks chords, sweeps or single notes with no hitches or glitches
Great 12-string guitar sound or turn your guitar into a bass
Amazing organ-like sounds
Adjustable original pitch volume, one octave up volume and one octave down volume
Dry output jack in addition to the effect output jack
Silent footswitching and road worthy die-cast package
EHX 9.6DC-200 power supply included

The Electric Guitar Show, a TV series created by Guitarists for Guitarists

“Help us create The Electric Guitar Show an exciting new WebTV series created by guitarists for guitarists. Hosted by Stuart Bull, Tom Quayle and the fabulous Hayley Leggs TEGS is a fast moving format packed with guitar chat, features, interviews, gear reviews and star profiles. Above all TEGS is going to be fun with some great guitar playing from our hosts, our guests and our superb in house band.”

This has to happen, imagine Top Gear for guitarists but not old farts wasting tax payers money bumbling around the countryside in steamrollers, instead an array of amazing guitar players like my old mate Tom Quayle playing guitar gear, interviewing guitar heroes and jamming. You can pledge as little as $5 so get over and check out the perks here –

“Each show will feature an artist and here the band really show their talent with some fantastic tributes. In My Guitar History we ask a guest how they came to chose their current axe and hear some of their embarrassing guitar stories of the past. Stu then guides them through the tricky Star with a Reasonably Priced Guitar challenge. You can also …read more

Positive Grid Launches BIAS FX – A new pro-grade Guitar Effects and Amp Rig

BIAS FX live view

When I first tried Positive Grid’s BIAS for iPad I was blown away. The level of detail included in their Amp Modelling and designing app was, and still is, unsurpassed by any other Software company. Not only does BIAS look great, the functionality included is amazing and the resulting tones are fantastic. The upside of BIAS is that it focusses on one thing and does it exceptionally well, it lets you tweak the inner workings of a number of amplifiers. The downside of this is that it didn’t include any effects to create a complete rig so you needed to import the amp into JamUp on the iPad. On desktop you had to use your own effects plugins after or before your amp plugin but they weren’t fully integrated into BIAS so you don’t have full flexibility of your signal chain.

Thankfully Positive Grid thankfully have decided to address this issue with an incredible new app for iOS and soon it will be available for desktop called BIAS FX. As you can see from the photos above, as with all Positive Grid software, the graphics are absolutely stunning. Each pedal is instantly recognisable and realistic looking versions of classics …read more

PRS Mark Holcomb Signature Custom 24 7 String Model

prs mark holcomb 7

Periphery’s Mark Holcomb announced his new signature model PRS at Winter NAMM earlier this year available as a 6 string model. Now Mark has announced that PRS have just delivered to him a 7 string version with a 26.5″ scale length, equipped with 7-string Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega set. The other specs for the guitar are the same as the 6 string model including the Charcoal Burst finish, not sure if the Black Cherry will also be available but I assume it will.

AXES & ANCHORS Cruise featuring Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde & Alex Skolnick

Axes & Anchors

“Imagine a cruise exclusively planned for guitarists and instrumentalists, featuring performances and personal lessons from some of the greatest guitar gods on the planet.”

Now personally I can’t afford these Rock cruises and getaways with your guitar idols which makes me extremely sad but if I did I reckon this would be a fun one!

The 5-day/4-night AXES & ANCHORS cruise aboard the Carnival Victory, departing from Miami, FL on February 20 2016, stopping in Key West, FL and Nassau, Bahamas, and docking back in Miami on February 24 2016.

“Witness blazing performances and take lessons directly from world-class rock and metal guitarists including ZAKK WYLDE (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, MICHAEL SCHENKER (Scorpions, UFO, MSG), ALEX SKOLNICK (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), TRACII GUNS (Guns N’ Roses, LA Guns), DARIO LORINA (Black Label Society, Lizzy Borden), and more, all while sailing the high seas and visiting exotic locales.

Earthquaker Devices Levitation Reverb

One of my favourite effects companies, Earthquaker Devices, have teamed up with the Levitation Music Festival, founded as Austin Psych Fest in 2008 as a gathering of Pyschedelic Rock bands and artists, to create a new Reverb pedal called the Earthquaker Devices Levitation Reverb.

“We wanted to remain true to the theme of LEVITATION and decided to do a variation on our popular Ghost Echo pedal to honor the reverb-drenched tones synonymous with classic psych rock. The Levitation Reverb builds on the base sound found in the Ghost Echo but does away with the attack and dwell and adds control over tone, decay, atmosphere and length in their place. It is a vintage voiced reverb that aims to fit somewhere between dirty sixties chambers, classic spring, and the big, ringing plate reverbs of days gone by.”

  • Length (Toggle): Broad stroke control for decay time. Shorter to left, longer to the right.
  • Decay: Controls the length of the reverb decay. Longer clockwise, shorter counter clockwise.
  • Atmosphere: This is a harmonic regeneration control, it feeds the upper frequencies of the reverb trails back through to create a more harmonic (ringing) reverb. More atmosphere clockwise, less counter clockwise.
  • Mix: This …read more
